Akshay Bardapurkar Launches Women-Centric OTT Platform 'Plaanet Stree'

Akshay Bardapurkar, the founder of Plaanet Marathi, has unveiled the launch of Plaanet Stree, a new OTT platform created  exclusively for women – by women, of women, and for women. The platform is set to officially launch on May 1, 2025, in celebration of Maharashtra Day, with seven notable women from various fields joining the announcement event.

After four successful years with Plaanet Marathi OTT, during which over 40 shows were hosted, Bardapurkar is now introducing new content centered around women’s experiences. The platform will showcase women-led podcasts, web films, and short films, alongside expert content from female doctors, astrologers, and chefs. It will also spotlight the contributions of rural women and female farmers, while providing a platform for women musicians and business leaders.

Bardapurkar explained that India's population of women, which is 48% now, is projected to overtake the male population in the immediate future. The sex ratio in Maharashtra is estimated to be 108.483 males per 100 females in 2025. He emphasized that Plaanet Stree seeks to create content that is true to the important position that women occupy in society.

Plaanet Stree will first roll out in Marathi but aims to go multi-lingual and be accessible all over India. Apart from offering streaming content, the platform will also have a women-centric marketplace for online product buying and selling, gamification, and AI-based engagement capabilities.

Addressing recent challenges faced by Plaanet Marathi, including legal disputes, Bardapurkar reaffirmed his commitment to quality content and regional expansion. “Every company faces ups and downs. We trust the judicial system and will emerge victorious,” he said. He further added, “Our current investors are aware of all the issues, and they have extended their support to this fabulous new venture.”

As Plaanet Stree prepares for its historic launch, Bardapurkar signed off by stating, “This is more than just an OTT platform – it’s a movement to empower women through storytelling, knowledge, and opportunities.”
