Abhishek Nayar, a former India and Mumbai allrounder, might become India's next assistant coach. Apparently, India's newly-appointed head coach Gautam Gambhir, who was a mentor to 2024 IPL champions Kolkata Knight Riders, is very impressed with Nayar's work in the backroom as an assistant coach at the franchise, where he has been in charge since 2018, and wants him to be a part of 'Team Gambhir' for India.

It will also assist that Nayar has a strong rapport with India's ODI and Test skipper, Rohit Sharma. It should be noted that a few years ago, India's wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik, who just retired, credited Nayar and his teaching techniques with his revival. Soon after KKR's IPL victory in May, leg-spinner Varun Chakravarthy complimented Nayar's contribution in the squad.

In an interview with this paper, KKR head coach Chandrakant Pandit stated that Nayar's contribution to the IPL title triumph was enormous. He spends time all year with our domestic athletes. Our domestic players come to Mumbai whenever they have free time to train with us. It is not mandatory for 15 players to attend the camp. Even if only one player is available, he is invited to travel down and train with us.

Nayar mentored numerous young players, notably KKR captain and India batter Shreyas Iyer. "Nayar enjoys guiding the youth.

These days, he frequently visits Mumbai's training camp at BKC and spends time with the players, providing them great advice. And he is not costing the Mumbai Cricket Association a single cent for this. "He is simply passionate about Mumbai cricket," according to a report.
