Abhinav Bindra: Creating History as the First Indian to Receive an Olympic Order

The Olympic Order has been given to Abhinav Bindra, the first Indian to win an individual medal in the Olympics, in recognition of his exceptional contributions to the Olympic movement. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) bestows the Olympic Order as its highest honor for distinguished service.

As the first Indian recipient of the Olympic Order, Bindra is a member of the IOC Athletes Commission and was praised for her accomplishment by a number of well-known people. At the IOC Executive Board meeting on Saturday in Paris, the decision was made to present Bindra with the prize. Many social media names connected to government agencies posted the information.

IOC President Thomas Bach wrote to Bindra on Monday, saying, "It is with great pleasure that I inform you that the IOC Executive Board has today decided to award you with the Olympic Order for your outstanding services to the Olympic November."

Bindra has been notified that the award ceremony is scheduled for August 10 at the 142nd IOC Session, which will be held in Paris.

"Permit me to express my heartfelt congratulations to you on receiving this honor. "I'm excited to see you in Paris," Bach said in the July 20, 2024 letter.

Dr. Mandaviya acknowledges Bindra

One of the people who sent congratulations to Bindra was Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, the Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports.

"We would like to congratulate @Abhinav_Bindra on receiving the Olympic Order in recognition of his exceptional contributions to the Olympic Movement! His accomplishment makes us proud and is highly merited. In a post on X, previously Twitter, Dr. Mandaviya—who is also the Minister of Labour and Employment—wrote, "His name alone has inspired generations of shooters and Olympians."

The Lucknow Super Giants' official account congratulated Bindra on receiving the honor as well.

The post on X said, "History-maker, once again, Congratulations Abhinav Bindra," and included a picture of Bindra from Beijing in 2008, when he won India's first-ever individual gold medal in the men's 10-meter air rifle.
