'Hollow Knight: Silksong' Released After 6-Year Delay, Resulting in Mixed Reaction?
It was the 24th of February, and a 2D game in the Metroidvania genre was released to the public. The game plot focused on the non-linear exploration, combined with action and adventure. With the core concept being ‘Beneath the surface,’ the utilization of elegiac-themed art backed up the core concept. This new release made the gamers glue onto the screen for hours, creating a fan base for the game.
The game that won the hearts of gamers with its compelling storytelling, artistic values, and core concept was ‘Hollow Knight.’ This game was released in the year 2017. Exactly 7 years ago. From 2017, after the release of Hollow Knight, the hope for the sequel and expectation for it were built from the very beginning.
These expectations were given hope after the announcement made by Team Cherry in the year 2019 that Hollow Knight will be having a sequel, Hollow Knight: Silksong, which will be releasing soon. But with years, like every indie game, the team facing issues with production gave no updates till June 2022. But with no further updates again, the fans gave up on the hope of a sequel.
Finally, the cries and disappointments of the fans are answered as Nintendo has released a 3-second clip of the sequel, ‘Hollow Knight: Silksong,’ stating that the game will be released in the year 2025. This 3-second clip has stirred the nostalgia and love for the game, which people had forgotten about due to its delay in making. The unchanged looks of the game, with the same animating style being present in the sequel, have surely recreated the nostalgia of the game for the players again.
While the fans are happy and celebrating the announcement, the confusion of ‘what to expect from the game?’ has been raised among the fans. The 6-year delay and the meantime releases of Dead Cells, Animal Well, and Ori and the Will of the Wisps games have already explored the theme of the Soulslike genre mixed with Metroidvania successfully. Therefore, the challenge for Hollow Knight: Silksong to set a new benchmark is strong.
