The IMAX Experience: Revolutionizing Cinema Through Technology and Immersion

By Ajay Sunny, Correspondent at Media Infotainment

Why IMAX Matters

IMAX is not a format, it is a promise. Directors such as Nolan, Denis Villeneuve, and James Cameron are innovative visionists taking advantage of IMAX capabilities to set new boundaries and create experiences that must be experienced on large auditorium screens.

In the case of the viewer, IMAX changes the experience of sitting back and watching, to an active, visceral experience, be it flying through the sky of Pandora or being a witness to the devastation of a city in Batman v Superman (2016). The blend of the latest technology with artistic aspirations make this format eternal.

As of 2025, IMAX is still being developed, counting more than 1,700 theaters around the world, and an increase in the demand of native IMAX proceeding. Although issues such as cost and accessibility still remain, the nature of the format to provide mind-blowing moments keeps it on top of the cinematic world. Based on the cinematic roughness of 70mm or the untainted laser cinema, IMAX is still a witness to the greatness of storytelling on a big scale.
